San Jose Episcopal Church is blessed with the dedicated services of clergy, staff members, and volunteers who help fulfill our mission.


Father Steph Britt, Rector

Father Britt graduated with a Master of Divinity from the School of Theology at Sewanee in 1996. He also has a Masters in British Literature earned at the University of South Carolina. Steph grew up in Naples, Florida. He is married to Carol Jarvis Britt, and they have one daughter, Katherine. Steph has previously served Episcopal churches in Tampa, Florida, and Augusta, Georgia.  


Susan Beaudin, Parish Administrator

Susan has been at San Jose, both church and school, for over 20 years. For the past seven years she has been our Parish Administrator. She is married to Matt and has a son, two daughters, three grandchildren, and two dogs. Susan is a gifted artist and likes to quilt and applique.    

Katie Bennett, Communications

Katie teaches our very own 'Kingdom Theatre" program for the Day School, which combines Religious Education through Drama. As communications coordinator for SJEC, Katie handles our weekly Wednesday email update, our Facebook page, and our church website. Katie is married to Scott, and they have a son Ben (SJEDS '05) and beautiful daughter in-law Caroline. You will see Katie around at church and enjoying many of our events both as a parishioner and church staff. Don't hesitate to email if you have any communication needs.   

Sue Dirghalli, Office Assistant & Publications

Sue came to San Jose in 2004. Sue puts together all of our bulletins and printed materials, and everything that isn't someone else's job is hers, too. Sue is married to Michael. They have three boys and a Golden Retriever. Two of Sue's sons are already Eagle Scouts, and the third is nearly finished with that supreme accomplishment, as well.   


William (Bill) D. Peters M.M., Organist/ Director of the Choir

Bill Peters has had a lifelong interest in music and organsBill headshot

In addition to serving as organist and choir director at San Jose, his music ministry takes him into Community Hospice where he regularly plays to share God's love to those in the Hospice community. He is overheard saying, “This weekly mission is the most rewarding of all.” Bill graduated with Master of Music degree in organ performance from Wilkes University and from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He completed additional study with his mentor and teacher Dr. George Markey, in organ and counterpoint, at the Guilmant Organ School in New York. Bill has celebrated 60 plus years as a church musician. He has presented recitals in Indiana, Pennsylvania, and New York City at St. Thomas’ Church, Fifth Avenue, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and Grace Episcopal Church in Lower Manhattan. Bill and his late wife Betsy spent lots of their spare time traveling around the United States. He has enjoyed playing organs in many European churches and cathedrals. As regional representative for the Allen Organ Company, Bill has presented many dedicatory recitals across Florida and Georgia. 

Laura Jane Pittman, Newcomers Ministry

Laura Jane Pittman has been a member at San Jose since 1997, and she has served in a number of roles, including children's choir director, Parish Choir member, Stephen Leader, and vestry member. Laura Jane and husband Buck have three children, Heather, Lily, and Will, Laura Jane is also a writing and editing consultant, enjoys yoga, and sings in the Jacksonville Symphony Chorus. 


Emily Waters, Director of Youth Ministry

Emily Waters has been involved in children's and youth ministries since she was in high school, when she taught children's church to elementary age kids. She has a degree in Environmental Science and Policy from Florida State University. In addition to serving as Director of Youth Ministry, Emily also teaches PreK-4 at San Jose Episcopal Day School.

Melissa Spediacci, Director of Children's Ministry

Melissa oversees and develops programming for children through sixth grade. She is a San Francisco/Bay Area native, and she and her family moved to Jacksonville in early 2015. Melissa has a Master's degree and teaching certification in Early Childhood Special Education from Santa Clara University. She has spent more than 14 years teaching, supporting, and encouraging children of different abilities and learning styles. Melissa, her husband Chris, and daughters Brynn and Talya enjoy going to the beach, swimming, and learning about places to explore on the First Coast.
